Elected officials have made many pledges to help First Nation in Manitoba’s Interlake area
A thought expressed by the leader of Peguis First Nation last week is likely on the minds of many as his community again rushes to fill sandbags around the perennially flooded community: when will government come through with a permanent solution?
Chief Stan Bird struck an optimistic tone Thursday about recent “positive” talks with federal officials.
“We both have the desire to have shovels in the ground by the summer to start working towards a permanent flood solution,” he said. “Because every year, we’re faced with the possibility of flooding, and the partnerships that we’ve formed [are] important.”
