Press Release

April 22, 2026

VICTORIA – Premier David Eby has issued the following statement celebrating Earth Day:

“From rugged coastlines to towering mountains, British Columbia is home to some of the most spectacular landscapes on Earth. Today, we celebrate these wild places and renew our commitment to protecting them for future generations.

“As British Columbians, we are known for our passion for protecting the environment. Today and every day, people throughout the province are volunteering in their communities, reducing waste and adopting sustainable ways of living.

“Our government is taking action as well. We are strengthening ecosystem protections, safeguarding clean water and becoming a clean-energy superpower.

“Partnership with First Nations is central to our work. By embracing Indigenous knowledge and leadership, we are advancing reconciliation and building a stronger, cleaner economy that works for everyone.

“Today, I encourage everyone to take a moment to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds us and think of ways we can protect it. Together, we can ensure British Columbia remains a place where the beauty of our lands, waters and wildlife inspires generations to come.”

Tamara Davidson, Minister of Environment and Parks, said:

“The natural beauty we’re surrounded by here in British Columbia inspires me every day. As minister, it’s truly a privilege to work alongside communities, First Nations and organizations as we work to ensure continued protection of the environment. Today, we recognize that the everyday choices we all make — choices with the environment at top of mind — have the power to shape a heathier, more sustainable future for British Columbia.”
