Mayo, YT — The First Nation of Nacho Nyak Dun is pleased to announce the successful completion of our recent by-election and extend our congratulations to all acclaimed candidates stepping into this interim mandate.
The election committee declared that:
Franklin A. Patterson was thereby elected as Chief of the First Nation of Nacho Nyak Dun.
Kyle Mervyn, Melody Hutton, and Florence Pilon were thereby elected as Councillors for the First Nation of Nacho Nyak Dun.
No nominations for the Youth Councillor seat were received during this by-election.
Nominations for the Youth Councillor have re-opened on April 20, 2026, and will close at
4:30pm on April 27, 2026, with the second by-election being held on Monday, June 8, 2026 from
10:00 a.m. – 8:00 p.m. Nomination Forms will be available at NND Government House –
Reception, NND Election Committee, Chief Electoral Officer – Krystal Profeit and at the NND

The General Meeting will take place on May 2, where the newly elected officials will be oriented and receive their mandate. Details about the swearing-in ceremony date will be announced soon.
We are grateful to those who stepped forward during this critical transition. Your leadership and commitment strengthen our community at a time of significant external pressures.
We also thank the election officials and all who supported the process. Your diligence ensured a transparent and trustworthy election—essential to strong governance. Thank you to Chief

As this was an interim by-election, we now look ahead to the next general election. The date for the 2027 General Election will be announced at the July General Assembly and shared broadly with citizens and intergovernmental partners.
Finally, we thank all candidates, officials, past leaders, and engaged citizens. Your dedication continues to strengthen our government and community. We are very proud of what we have achieved together—especially given the challenges we have faced with limited resources and ongoing external crises.
