Centre to provide traditional experience to expectant mothers
It was an emotional day for Sturgeon Lake members Wednesday as they celebrated the grand opening of Saskatchewan’s first Indigenous-led birthing lodge on a First Nation.
Until now, expectant mothers from Sturgeon Lake First Nation have had to travel to Prince Albert or Saskatoon to give birth, often without family surrounding them.
One mother in Sturgeon Lake — located about 45 kilometres northwest of Prince Albert — says giving birth to her first three children in the city was lonely.
