The Halalt First Nation in Chemainus has received $400,000 from the provincial government for a riverscape and flood resilience project.
The funds come as part of the $18 million Disaster Resilience and Innovation Funding program aimed at helping B.C.’s local governments and First Nations combat natural and climate-driven hazards.
“Planning for natural disasters is part of what it takes to build resilient communities,” said Debra Toporowski, MLA for Cowichan Valley. “This funding will help protect our critical Chemainus River watershed and the people and infrastructure around the river if disaster strikes.”
