Listuguj Haven House Second Stage Transitional Housing Project
The Listuguj Mi’gmaq Government (LMG) would like to congratulate Haven House on the successful submission of their Second Stage Transitional Housing project. The proposal was submitted to the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and has been awarded $4.3 million to complete the project with Indigenous Services Canada contributing annual operational funding. This initiative will also create opportunities for local carpenters and tradespeople. Nearly three years ago, Haven House Associate Director, Sheila Swasson, and Apoqonmatultinej Wellness Center Manager, Tina Condo developed the initial proposal for this much-needed community resource. The project received key technical support from LMG’s Capital and Infrastructure team: Bassem Abdrabou, Marie-Christine Roussel Gray, Roger Cormier, Jessica Hottot and Melissa Geraghty. This project is also fully supported by Chief Scott Martin and Council. The Second Stage Transitional Housing will result in the construction and development of eight fully furnished units, for families experiencing family, gender-based or intimate partner violence, along with an administration building. Haven House, and Apoqonmatultinej Wellness Center are currently planning and preparing for a sod-turn ceremony to be held within the next couple of weeks.
