Press Release
May 12, 2026
Drug poisonings (overdoses) continue to raise serious concern in our region related to more potent substances circulating the community. This is a critical reminder that street drugs may be cut or mixed with dangerous substances such as benzos (benzodiazepines), xylazine, medetomidine, fentanyl, or carfentanil.
The North Bay Parry Sound Health Unit has reported that “drug-related overdose activity has surpassed levels seen during the COVID-19 pandemic.” As a result, on May 5, 2026, the Health Unit extended a drug alert a second time.
If you use drugs, take steps to reduce your risk. Share this information to help save lives:
The Good Samaritan Overdose Act will protect those at the scene of an overdose for being charged with possession. If you require a naloxone kit, please reach out to Giyak Moseng/The Right Path to access kits and information on how to respond to an overdose/drug poisoning.
