Standing Hearing Set For Inquest Into Death Of Myles Clearsky

Press Release

May 25, 2026

A standing hearing will take place to determine who can participate in the upcoming inquest into the death of Myles Clearsky, 24, of Winnipeg.

The circumstances of the death are as follows:

On Oct. 24, 2022, Clearsky was in custody at the RCMP detachment in Selkirk, awaiting transport to the Winnipeg Remand Centre. Clearsky was found unresponsive in his cell. CPR was initiated and he was transported to Selkirk Regional Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy determined the cause of death was methamphetamine overdose.

Under the Fatality Inquiries Act, an inquest has been called by the chief medical examiner. Inquests explore the circumstances and events leading to deaths for the purpose of finding out what, if anything, might be done to prevent similar deaths in the future.

Before the inquest begins, the judge will decide who can participate in the process and question witnesses. Individuals and groups may apply to be granted standing and participate in the inquest. Those interested in applying for standing should contact Kerry UnRuh, inquest counsel, at kunruh@dfsku.com or 204-949-1710 by June 23.

The standing hearing will be held on July 7 at 2 p.m. in courtroom 402 at the Manitoba Law Courts Complex, 408 York Ave., Winnipeg.
