Message from Patricia Farrugia, Associate Dean of Indigenous Health, Faculty of Health Sciences
As we recognize Indigenous History Month this June 2026, we are reminded of the enduring strength, knowledge and contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples across these lands now called Canada.
This month is an opportunity for all of us in the Faculty of Health Sciences to reflect on the histories that have shaped our country, to honour Indigenous communities and cultures, and to deepen our collective understanding of truth, reconciliation and responsibility.
Indigenous History Month is not only a celebration of resilience and achievement, but also a call to continue learning about the impacts of colonialism and the importance of Indigenous voices, leadership, and ways of knowing within our classrooms, campuses and communities.
As the associate dean, Indigenous Health, I encourage all members of our McMaster community to take time this month to engage meaningfully with Indigenous histories, perspectives and contemporary realities.
Whether through attending events, reading Indigenous authors, supporting Indigenous artists and scholars, or participating in dialogue and reflection, each action contributes to a more respectful and inclusive future.
Reconciliation is an ongoing journey that requires commitment, humility and action from all of us.
May this month inspire continued learning, stronger relationships and a shared commitment to advancing Indigenous excellence and equity at McMaster and beyond.
