Government of Yukon to invest $5.1 million in 87 new partner-built homes

The Government of Yukon is investing $5.1 million in partner-led housing projects approved through the ninth intake of the Housing Initiatives Fund.

This year’s funding supports nine shovel-ready affordable housing projects in Mayo, Haines Junction, Dawson and Whitehorse as well as one project concept in Dawson.

Combined, the funding will help partners construct 87 new homes including 54 new affordable homes. This supply of affordable housing across the territory responds to ongoing needs in Yukon communities.

Community proponents selected to receive funding for shovel-ready projects include:

• Na-Cho Nyäk Dun Development Corporation in Mayo;
• one private proponent in Haines Junction; and
• two private proponents in Dawson.

Whitehorse proponents selected to receive funding for shovel-ready projects are:

• Friends of Mount Sima Society;
• 838960 Yukon Inc.;
• SHVT Inc.;
• Yukon Engineering Society; and
• one private proponent.

One proponent is receiving concept funding for pre-development work:

• Tr’ondëk Hwëch’in Government in Dawson.

Since 2018, the Housing Initiatives Fund has committed more than $42 million in funding to support housing development across the Yukon. These investments are supporting the development of more than 1,000 new housing units, with nearly 800 of those units to remain affordable for 20 years.

Investing in new affordable housing is essential to ensuring more Yukoners have a safe, stable place to call home. Through the Housing Initiatives Fund, partners across the territory – the private sector, community organizations, and individual Yukoners – are continuing to step up and invest in residential rental projects to further increase the supply of affordable homes.

• The ninth intake for Housing Initiatives Fund shovel-ready projects ran from February 2, 2026, to March 16, 2026.
• Applications for the project concept funding stream are accepted year-round.
• The Housing Initiatives Fund requires that units are energy efficient, that a specified number of units are built to accessibility and barrier-free standards and that units are rented at affordable rates for 20 years.
• Funding can be combined with other Yukon Housing Corporation programs, such as the Municipal Matching Rental Construction Program, as well as with federal funding through programs such as Build Canada Homes.
