QIA Board of Directors Meeting Concludes

Iqaluit, Nunavut – June 4, 2026 – The Board of Directors of the Qikiqtani Inuit Association (QIA) concluded its June 3–5 meeting in Iqaluit, approving a number of resolutions that support Inuit communities, cultural preservation, education, infrastructure development, and the stewardship of Inuit-Owned Lands across the Qikiqtani region.

A key focus of the meeting was the continued implementation of QIA’s Revenue Allocation Policy. The Board received an update on Community Resources and Opportunities funding, which has allocated a total of $4.48 million directly to Qikiqtani communities through Community Land and Resource Committees (CLARCs). The funding supports community-driven projects and priorities identified by Inuit in each community.

Key resolutions approved by the Board include:

  • Approval of QIA’s new Land Management Policy, establishing a modern framework for the administration and stewardship of Inuit-Owned Lands in the Qikiqtani region.
  • Approval of the 2026–27 Regional Programs Budget Allocation, including support for cultural activities, Inuit post-secondary education through Kakivak Association, daycare resources, and Inuit student scholarships.
  • Approval of investments through the Indigenous Housing and Community Infrastructure Fund, including:
    • $5 million toward the Nunavut Inuit Heritage Centre;
    • $10 million for a daycare project; and
    • $10 million to support new Nauttiqsuqtiit infrastructure across the Qikiqtani
  • Approval of Hunters Support Grant allocations to support harvesting activities and food security initiatives across the region.
  • Approval of funding under the Qikiqtani Fisheries Agreement to support Inuit training and employment opportunities.
  • Approval of infrastructure initiatives and project funding to support housing, training, and community development priorities.
  • Appointments to several boards, committees, and advisory bodies that support conservation, governance, and community wellbeing.

The Board also received updates on infrastructure projects, Inuit training initiatives, marine and wildlife programs, and ongoing work to advance the recommendations of the Qikiqtani Truth Commission.
