Aboriginal kids belong in their community – The Daily Courier

Thirty-five people beat drums, sang and marched through Westbank to protest the B.C. government’s handling of aboriginal children.

More aboriginal kids are getting placed in foster homes outside the Okanagan because the Ministry for Children and Family Development refuses to allow native people to take care of them, the crowd heard outside Premier Christy Clark’s constituency
office Monday.

“Give our kids back and stop pretending you know what’s best for us,” said Jennifer Houde, who manages services for children and families in the Okanagan Nation Alliance.

“It’s horrific. It’s actually a form or genocide, a form of assimilation and it’s the government agenda.”
