Air Inuit has filed a lawsuit in Quebec’s Superior Court, alleging a lack of maintenance on runways in Nunavik, according to multiple reports.
The regional airline is seeking damages from Quebec’s provincial government, as well as Kativik Regional Government, CBC reported.
Air Inuit is seeking nearly $9 million in damages for repairs and replacements to its aircraft, alleging the gravel runways are causing premature wear and tear, according to court documents viewed by CBC.
The airline said dust from poorly-maintained runways gets caught in aircraft engines, reducing their lifespan by about 50 percent.
