APTN journalist awarded fellowship to research health issues affecting indigenous communities in Canada

APTN is pleased to announce that Karyn Pugliese, an Ottawa-based host/producer and online journalist, has been awarded the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) Indigenous Health Journalism Fellowship. Delivered in partnership with the Canadian Medical Association (CMA), this one-year fellowship supports in-depth reporting on critical health issues affecting Indigenous communities across Canada.

Karyn’s award-winning proposal is focused on investigating opioid addiction and its impact on First Nations communities across the country. The fellowship will provide one year of funding to support this research. APTN News will serve as the production partner, with the project scheduled for broadcast on APTN News platforms in 2027.

For more information about Karyn Pugliese and the fellowship, see the official statement on the website of the Canadian Journalism Foundation (CJF) Indigenous Health Journalism Fellowship.
