Arctic Winter Games International Committee – NWT Director Appointment

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) would like to congratulate Jane Arychuk, who has been appointed by the Arctic Winter Games International Committee (AWGIC) as the Northwest Territories’ (NWT) non-government authority on the committee.

Mrs. Arychuk has over 35 years of experience in education and consulting across the NWT, including work in Yellowknife, Fort Providence, Ndilǫ, Dettah, Fort Smith, Délı̨nę̨, and the Tłı̨chǫ Region. She has supported initiatives in early learning and childcare, Indigenous student success and graduation, healthcare, and physical activity for persons with disabilities.

Her connection to sport started in school sports when she hosted and travelled with students to sporting events across the territory, including the tenting days at track and field in Fort Smith.

Mrs. Arychuk is also very active in supporting physical activity for persons with disabilities as the current chairperson for Special Olympics NWT. In her work with Special Olympics, she has traveled to events as mission staff and has helped promote a culture of safety within the sport system.

Mrs. Arychuk’s appointment to the AWGIC is already in effect, with her starting her duties at the recent AWGIC meetings held in Whitehorse on October 2 and 3, 2024.
