Who would have known that the simple story of a bear, as told by a Native elder, could inspire such a wealth of creativity and uncover artistic talent that had once been hidden from the world?
At Sunday morning’s Festival Forum, entitled Tales of the Spirit Bear, the Indigenous youth visiting Stratford from four remote northern communities as part of DAREarts and the Stratford Festival’s Spirit Bear Partnership showed those gathered how, with access to the proper equipment and guidance, anything is possible.
At the end of the five-day visit, during which the youth toured the Festival’s theatres, took part in workshops with Indigenous actors, and saw two world-class plays, they walked onto the stage at the Studio Theatre to share some of the artistic creations they had made both in Stratford and back in each of their home communities.
