ASIRT investigations concluded on four files

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has completed its investigations into four separate incidents and released the executive director’s and assistant executive director’s full reports on each decision.

On March 26, 2020, pursuant to Sec. 46.1 of the Police Act, ASIRT was directed to investigate the admission of a male to hospital after an interaction with officers of the High Prairie RCMP.

On Aug. 8, 2022, ASIRT was directed to investigate a fatal RCMP officer-involved shooting.

On Oct. 15, 2022, ASIRT was directed to investigate a death of an individual while being transported by officers of the Edmonton Police Service.

On April 26, 2023, ASIRT was directed to investigate a serious injury involving RCMP in Whitehorse, YT on April 8, 2023.

ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
