Qalipu First Nation Chief Jenny Brake welcomed Chiefs, technicians and Assembly of First Nations staff at a meeting in Corner Brook late last month. These members of the AFN’s National Fisheries Committee met for three days and discussed their strategic plan while reaffirming a commitment towards proactive stewardship. Regional Chiefs from Canada select members to be on the committee and Brake says it was a natural fit for her. On Bayfm’s Qalipu Today, the Chief spoke about how the fishery is a part of every treaty and the committee brings issues to AFN, who advocate to government.
