(NS-Incompetent-Persons-Act)
A judge has ruled a Nova Scotia man challenging the province’s Incompetent Persons Act must have a “litigation guardian” to help him with his case.
Twenty-five-year-old Landon Webb is fighting to no longer be considered mentally incompetent — arguing the law that limits the rights of people with intellectual disabilities infringes on his rights and freedoms.
His parents say their son functions at the level of a 10 or 12-year-old, but Webb says he is not incompetent and wants to be free to live a normal life.
The provincial government said last month that it would not oppose the constitutional challenge of the Act and would change the law. (The Canadian Press)

(Airline-Seat-Size)
An airline passenger rights advocate says he’s protecting public interests — not individual interests — in a discrimination complaint against Delta Airlines.
Gabor Lukacs has gone to Federal Court after his initial complaint over what he says is the airline’s practice of bumping obese travellers or making them buy two seats was dismissed.
The Canadian Airport Transportation Agency found the Halifax man had no standing in the matter because he isn’t overweight.
But Lukacs says the question of who the complainant is should be irrelevant because discrimination affects everybody and the Delta practice should be banned in Canada. (The Canadian Press)

New Brunswick Premier Brian Gallant has announced the creation of 98 new jobs in Miramichi.
Gallant says Ottawa-based DEW Engineering and Development is creating the jobs to deliver on several new defence and security contracts.
The province is providing half-a-million dollars in funding — 400-thousand dollars from a payroll rebate and 100-thousand through the Miramichi Regional Economic Development and Innovation Fund.
The government says the project will increase the provincial G-D-P by six-million dollars annually. (The Canadian Press)

(NL-Missing-Teen)
Heavy snow has hampered the search for a missing teenager in an Innu community in Newfoundland and Labrador.
R-C-M-P say all buildings and open areas in Natuashish (NAT’-wah-sheesh) have been searched in an effort to find 17-year-old Kirby Mistenapeo, who was reported missing last Thursday.
Plans are in place to search the valley south of Natuashish and nearby Sango Bay and the search is also planned to continue in Davis Inlet once the weather improves.
A Cormorant helicopter has left Goose Bay to join in the search. (VOCM)

A 23-year-old man has been arrested after a Yarmouth man was stabbed while walking down the street with a friend.
Police say the incident happened Saturday night when a lone male approached two men — aged 23 and 20 — and stabbed the 23-year-old with a knife.
The victim was transported to Yarmouth Regional Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Police say Jairus Harold Berry of Yarmouth was arrested last night and is facing charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon. (The Canadian Press)

Mount Allison University will be hosting six to eight provincial team program events per year under a new partnership with Football New Brunswick.
Football N-B says the three-year partnership will allow for more collaboration and support between its provincial team program and the Mount Allison Mounties Football program — the only C-I-S program in New Brunswick.
Executive Director Josh Harris says Football N-B hopes the annual visits to Mount Allison will motivate the province’s best football talent to set their sights on C-I-S competition.
Sackville Mayor Robert Berry says the partnership will also have a positive economic impact on the entire community. (The Canadian Press)
