Our organization, Superior Children’s Centre, understands that the Back-to-School season can be particularly stressful for children, and their families. In recognition of the fact that many families have a difficult time ensuring their children have the basic necessities to start school, Superior Children’s Centre had initiated the Back to School and Ready to Learn-Backpack program in 2005.
Our primary goal is to prepare children to be successful in school by providing them with the basic supplies they need on their first day of school. Each backpack is equipped with two pencils, eraser, ruler, markers, pencil crayons, sharpener, paper and pencil case. Young teens packs have the same with the addition of a binder, dividers, highlighters and a pen.
Costs have raised a lot since 2005 and each year they rise even more. This year we managed to support 49 children with a backpack at the cost of $1387.82. These monies are donated monies from the businesses of Wawa, Clubs of Wawa and community members.
