Brantford will contribute $1 million to help build a new centre that will honour the past and celebrate the stories of First Nations people.
City councillors on Tuesday voted in favour of contributing $250,000 annually over four years to the Woodland Cultural Centre’s “We Celebrate Our Stories” capital campaign. The campaign aims to raise $65 million to build a new cultural centre.
So far, the campaign has raised just over $2.2 million, which includes a $1-million commitment from Six Nations of the Grand River elected council and private donations. The campaign will also be seeking support from the federal and provincial governments.
