Call for members for the Midwifery Board of Inquiry

Press Release

November 17, 2025

The Midwifery Profession Act mandates that a Board of Inquiry (board) reviews and adjudicates on matters brought before the board regarding the practice of a registered midwife in Nunavut, such as acts or omissions that may constitute unprofessional conduct. The Department of Health is searching for new members to join.

The Department of Health is seeking:

  • At least three members who are registered midwives in Nunavut or in another province or territory.
  • At least one member who is not a midwife and not an employee of the Government of Nunavut.
  • At least one member currently with the public service of Nunavut.

Applicants should have a strong interest in the regulatory process. Experience in a health-related field would be an asset.

The Board of Inquiry would be called on as necessary when a matter is referred to the board by its president. The time commitment would be dependent on the complexity of the matter before the board. Members would also be expected to participate in meetings prior to the sitting of the board (e.g., to establish the rules and dates of sitting of the board).

If you are interested in this opportunity, submit your resume and a letter of interest to the Department of Health at HEAStatAppointments@gov.nu.ca by December 5, 2025.
