Canadian culture to be celebrated in Quinte West – Belleville Intelligencer

September 7, 2016

QUINTE WEST – The city is planning a week of cultural celebrations leading up to the Canada’s 150th birthday in 2017.

Quinte West Multicultural Week will be held June 25 to July 1, 2017.

The city will submit a funding application to the Canada 150 Fund – Community Celebration Stream. The program will fund up to 100 per cent of the project cost to a maximum of $50,000.

During the week long celebration, the city will pay tribute to the following ethnic groups – French, Dutch, German, Scottish/Irish/English, Italian/Greek and Aboriginal.

An event will be held each day leading up to the Canada Day. Events could include a Francophone music festival, Aboriginal art festival, a German Oktoberfest celebration, a Celtic picnic and an Italian/Greek food event.
“This project aligns with the priorities of the Canada 150 Fund by encouraging residents to celebrate Canada’s anniversary of Confederation, along with our country’s diversity and global reputation for social diversity,” said Laurie Caouette, special events coordinator/grant research analyst.
