Canadian Race Relations Foundation hosting Roundtable with Lieutenant Governor to mark Human Rights Day

TORONTO, Nov. 28, 2016 – The Canadian Race Relations Foundation is hosting a Roundtable discussion focusing on countering racism to mark this year’s upcoming Human Rights Day.

The Roundtable, to be held on Dec. 7, 2016 in the presence of the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell, Lieutenant Governor of Ontario, will bring together community leaders and thought-leaders to discuss the ways in which Canadians can continue fighting racism and promoting social harmony.

A panel of speakers, moderated by Hannah Sung of the Globe and Mail, will share their own experiences with racism while offering their views on best practices and next steps in countering racism. They will discuss various issues including: the main challenges in countering racism today; what we can learn from youth as we move forward; social media and the challenges to speaking out against racism; and how we can bring divided communities together.

“The theme for this year’s Human Rights Day, ‘Stand up for someone’s rights today,’ is very pertinent to today,” said Anita Bromberg, Executive Director, CRRF. “We believe the need to come together and fight racism in this era of rising tensions between communities is more important than ever.”
