City of Fort Saskatchewan: Honouring National Day for Truth and Reconciliation

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, on September 30, seeks to honour First Nations, Inuit, and Métis survivors of residential schools and their families and communities, and to ensure that public commemoration of their history and the legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process. The City of Fort Saskatchewan will honour this Federal Statutory Holiday.

The City of Fort Saskatchewan will honour the Federal Statutory Holiday on Friday, September 30. What this means for residents:

City Hall, Harbour Pool, the Fort Heritage Precinct, and the James E Graham building will be closed.
The Dow Centennial Centre, including the Facility Bookings office, Taurus Field, and the Arenas will be closed.
The Shell Theatre will be open only for the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation event from 6:30-9:00pm (more info below).
Court Proceedings will continue as scheduled.
Transit is running a regular schedule.

The City will offer the opportunity to attend a blanket exercise to all City staff in October 2022 as a way to continue reflecting on this important work as an organization.

Also on September 30, there will be a film screening of The Forgotten People. A commemorative event at the Shell Theatre begins with a light meal at 6:00pm with the film starting at 6:30pm. This event will be free to attend. Guests will view the 27-minute film and have the opportunity to connect with the community through Métis and First Nations cultural dance and food.
