City of Victoria: 2021 Honorary Citizen Award Recipients Announced

Press Release

October 21, 2021

This is a TEST of the City of Victoria’s website emergency notification system. In the event of an emergency, helpful information and updates will be available here.

It’s Time to ShakeOut Victoria!

Today is the Great British Columbia ShakeOut (ShakeOutBC) which is the province-wide earthquake drill when people practice what to do in the event of an earthquake: Drop, Cover, and Hold On!

Use this time to find safe spaces where you live, work, and play and practise what to do when an earthquake occurs. This is also a great reminder to talk to your family and neighbours about your emergency plan and check for expired items in your emergency kit.

The City will use this emergency notification in the event of a major emergency to communicate important information such as evacuation information and the location of reception centres and group lodging facilities. This information will also be communicated through the City’s VictoriaReady social media accounts:

The City of Victoria will testing the Vic-Alert emergency notification system for ShakeOut at 10:21am; to sign up for Vic-Alert, please visit victoria.ca/VicAlert.

In the event of power outages when these systems may be down, tune into your local radio station on a crank or battery operated radio for emergency updates.
