Cold Lake city council is weighing a proposal to restore traditional Dené names to several local lakes and creeks.
The request, submitted by Cold Lake First Nations, aims to honour Indigenous heritage and is being reviewed by Alberta’s Heritage Division.
While most waterways fall outside city limits, council discussed potential impacts and agreed to seek clarification—particularly on how names would appear on provincial maps.
