Conserve water – Gjoa Haven

Press Release

January 21, 2026

Residents of Gjoa Haven are advised to conserve water due to limited potable water delivery capacity because of the mechanical failure affecting the water supply line to the water treatment plant.

The community is being asked to reduce all non‑essential water use, including laundry, long showers and unnecessary cleaning. Use water only for essential needs so that all households can continue to receive service.

A boil water advisory has also been issued by the chief public health officer until further notice. This also applies to any water drawn from natural sources, such as rivers and lakes.

Water can be boiled either in a pot or kettle on a stove or an electric kettle without an automatic shut-off. Please remember to use all camp stoves outdoors to prevent carbon monoxide from entering your home.

Updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
