Residents of Thessalon and surrounding area were offered a hands–on introduction to online learning and information about the upcoming First Steps Program offered fully online by Contact North | Contact Nord partner, Sioux Hudson Literacy Council, on the Contact North | Contact Nord webconferencing platform.

“I’m really looking forward to starting my online learning course in April,” said Iris Hicks, a resident of Thessalon First Nation.

Contact North | Contact Nord, Ontario’s distance education and training network, with 112 online learning centres across the province partners with Ontario’s 24 public colleges, 22 public universities, and 250 literacy and basic skills and training providers to deliver their online programs and courses.

Funded by the Government of Ontario to provide local access to education and training opportunities, it ensures residents living in small, rural, remote, Aboriginal and Francophone communities can participate in over 1,200 online programs and 18,000 online courses without having to leave their community.

For those unable to attend the Open House last week, the First Steps program will run from April 4 – 8.
