This forum will provide opportunities to examine the various types of ‘Indian Trusts’ in Canada, and help you to understand how they operate. Currently there are billions of dollars called ‘Indian monies’ held in these trusts, where very little is known about them. Topics to be addressed include: negotiating compensation Trusts; designing Trusts based on traditional concepts; Supreme Court rulings, and how the owners and trustees of this wealth can work collectively and collaboratively to benefit Indigenous economies.
This conference is the fourth in the Creation of Wealth Series created by NICE, to work toward the advancement of Indigenous understanding and to build capacity for sustainability and self-reliance. Distinguished and learned speakers including Elders, visionaries and other professionals will be sharing their wisdom and experience concerning ‘Indian Trusts’.
