Some northern First Nations are trying to keep young people safe by keeping them away from Thunder Bay.
According to the Executive Director of the Northern Nishnawbe Education Council, enrolment at Dennis Franklin Cromarty school is down by almost half this year.
Donna Kejick says parents and community leaders are shaken by the deaths of Tammy Keeash and Josiah Begg.
“[The deaths] have really frightened parents, frightened our leaders,” Kejick told City Councillors on Monday night. “Something more needs to be done to ensure the safety of Aboriginal people in the city of Thunder Bay.”
