Press Release
June 8, 2025
The Manitoba Wildfire Service and the Office of the Fire Commissioner remind Manitobans to follow mandatory evacuation orders. If a mandatory evacuation order is issued for a community, all residents must leave their homes and not return until advised by authorities it is safe to do so. Returning home before it is safe creates dangerous situations for responders and ties up crucial resources needed to respond to wildfires.
The Manitoba Wildfire Service advises the province has a low-to-moderate fire danger level today, with the northeast area under a high-to-extreme fire danger. Lightning starts are anticipated.
To provide context as to the seriousness and size of the wildfires, the city of Winnipeg is approximately 46,000 hectares in size. Fire EA061 is approximately five times the size of Winnipeg, while Fire WE017 is now approximately seven times the size of Winnipeg.
The Manitoba Wildfire Service continues to respond to 28 active wildfires across the province, a total of 114 wildfires to date, above the average for this date of 99 total fires.
Fires of note include:

Fire and travel restrictions
Manitoba continues under a provincewide state of emergency. Human activity continues to significantly contribute to Manitoba’s current wildfire situation. The provincial state of emergency under the Emergency Measures Act is in effect until June 26.
Manitoba continues at Level 3 for fire and travel restrictions, which are in place across much of the province including all provincial parks and all burn permit areas (areas 1 to 22). Backcountry travel is prohibited without a permit. To request a travel permit, email BackcountryTravel@gov.mb.ca or call (204) 345-1489.
A full burn ban is in place. Campfires are prohibited even in approved pits. Full details on fire and travel restrictions for provincial parks and burn permit areas, along with municipal burn bans, can be found at www.manitoba.ca/wildfire/#travel_restrictions.
Manitoba Parks advises trails and backcountry water routes in all provincial parks are closed. Several provincial parks in the eastern and northern regions are closed to all park users. Check www.manitobaparks.com for details.
