The Fort William First Nation flag will fly alongside Thunder Bay’s at city hall.
Mayor Keith Hobbs made the motion that the First Nation community’s flag should be flown permanently alongside the city’s, Canada’s and Ontario’s flags at Monday night’s council meeting. He said he was honoured to sign a declaration of commitment with Fort William back in 2011 and explained it’s important that they recognize each other as neighbours.
He said during events they always recognize they are on the traditional lands of Fort William First Nation and mentioned other communities in Canada fly First Nations flags, so Thunder Bay won’t be the only one.
