First Nation leaders demand inclusion in climate talks – The Chronicle Journal

Ontario First Nations want to be involved in climate change talks.

Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day said Monday that First Nation governments must be included “in Canada’s united approach for protecting our lands and our planet for future generations.

“We all know, and are experiencing the threat of climate change and global warming. Because these impacts are being felt by our people, in our treaty and traditional lands, we should be the ones who are thoroughly consulted,” he said.

Isadore comments came as the Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and provincial and territorial leaders met Monday to discuss climate change in advance of the Paris conference on the global issue.
