First Nations leaders to speak on concerns about K’omoks, Kitselas treaty bills – CBC

Lax Kw’alaams members plan peaceful protest in Prince Rupert Tuesday morning

A group of First Nations leaders who have previously spoken out against two treaty bills in B.C. are scheduled to address media on Tuesday morning.

Last week, the Union of British Columbia Indian Chiefs (UBCIC) asked the province to pause the treaty bills for the K’omoks and Kitselas First Nations. We Wei Wai Kum First Nation, the Nine Allied Tribes and Lax Kw’alaams Band have voiced opposition to the treaties, in particular, around traditional territory overlaps.

They’ve also raised concerns about governance issues and a lack of meaningful consultation and accommodation.
