First Nations University of Canada to Commemorate 50th Anniversary Across Saskatchewan Campuses

Media and community members are invited to attend the First Nations University of Canada 50th Anniversary Commemorations taking place across FNUniv campuses on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.

The commemorations will mark 50 years of Indigenous-led post-secondary education and recognize the May 27, 1976 federation approval of the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College (SIFC), now the First Nations University of Canada (FNUniv).

The Government of Saskatchewan will proclaim May 27, 2026, in recognition of the First Nations University of Canada’s 50th Anniversary.

Events will take place at the Regina, Saskatoon, and Northern Campuses, bringing together students, alumni, Elders, faculty, staff, leadership, and community members to honour the vision and resilience that have shaped FNUniv over the past five decades.

The Regina Campus event will serve as the primary media event and will include the formal arrival of the Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan and Vice-Regal Salute.

Everyone is welcome to attend the commemorations and community lunch gatherings throughout the day.
