Five candidates battling for Saskatoon Fairview seat; polls open at 9 a.m. – CTV

September 7, 2017

The Saskatoon Fairview byelection could be a tight race today.

Five candidates are vying for the provincial legislative seat.

Saskatchewan Party candidate Cameron Scott is aiming to prevent his party from losing its second byelection this year. Vicki Mowat, who nearly won the seat in last year’s provincial election, is hoping a second run in the constituency lands her the seat for the NDP. And the Liberal’s Shah Rukh, the Progressive Conservative Party’s David Prokopchuk and the Green Party’s Taylor Bolin are all hoping to win a lone seat for their respective parties in the legislature.

The Saskatoon Fairview constituency was left vacant after Saskatchewan Party MLA Jennifer Campeau stepped down in late June to take a job with mining company Rio Tinto. The constituency had swung NDP since 1986, until Campeau won the seat in 2011 and 2016.

Scott, a Saskatoon Public School Board trustee, hopes Saskatoon Fairview remains with the ruling party.
