Timmins 9 fire is 460 hectares and burning 14 km west of the First Nation community and 10 km north of Gogama
MATTAGAMI FIRST NATION – About 200 people from Mattagami First Nation are being evacuated as a wildfire continues to burn out of control west of the community.
Chief Jennifer Constant said the decision to evacuate was made on Tuesday (June 2) after officials looked at weather forecasts, fire behaviour, and updates from the Ministry of Natural Resources.
“The winds have been in our favour, and we’ve been fortunate since Sunday that the wind has been going south to southeast,” Constant told TimminsToday.
