Former lodge could house students – The Chronicle Journal

Matawa First Nations Management is hoping the former Grandview Lodge building will become a second home for some of its students attending school in Thunder Bay.

City council will consider authorizing a letter of intent on Aug. 28’s committee of the whole meeting that would grant the former seniors residence on Lillie Street to Matawa so they can redevelop it as a student education and care centre for students who come to the city from their home communities to attend high school.

About 300 students from Matawa’s nine-member communities attend various secondary schools in Thunder Bay. The proposed facility would house 100 students and be the new site of the Matawa Learning Centre, which is currently located on Cumberland Street.
