Fort Chipewyan Indigenous leaders blast RMWB over delayed diesel leak notice – Fairview Post

The RMWB says drinking water is safe and apologized for the late notice, but Chief Allan Adam says the incident is part of a “frustrating” pattern from industry and governments.

Indigenous leaders in the Fort Chipewyan area are furious they were told about a leaking diesel pipe at the community’s water treatment plant more than two months after it happened. The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is apologizing for the breakdown in communications and says no diesel made it into drinking water.

Chief Allan Adam of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation (ACFN) says the incident has not soothed health fears in a community that has long been suspicious about the quality of their air and water.
