Good vibrations at Nipissing FN pow wow – North Bay Nugget

Theland Kicknosway hopes to inspire his generation of First Nations youth to return to traditional ways.

The 13-year-old from Walpole Island First Nation, near Sarnia, was among more than 7,000 people who took part in the 28th annual Nipissing First National Traditional Pow Wow on Labour Day weekend.

Kicknosway is already entering the fourth year of a campaign to raise awareness about missing and murdered Indigenous women.

Since the age of nine, Theland, a traditional drummer and hoop dancer, has organized walks and singing and drumming events to raise awareness and bring attention to the issue.

“The children of these women need a voice,” he said during the 28th annual Nipissing First Nation Traditional Pow Wow.
