From: Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario – FedNor
May 12, 2026 – Sudbury, ON – Federal Economic Development Agency for Northern Ontario – FedNor
In a rapidly changing world, the Government of Canada is focused on building resilience here at home. We are empowering local communicates, strengthening workforce, and creating the opportunities for long-term sustainable growth.
Today, Viviane Lapointe, Member of Parliament for Sudbury, announced a total FedNor investment of $1,612,589 for six projects designed to help unlock the economic and tourism potential of Greater Sudbury and communities across the region. The announcement was made on behalf of the Honourable Patty Hajdu, Minister of Jobs and Families and Minister responsible for FedNor.
Through FedNor’s core programs, these investments will help bring several important projects to life, including the construction of the Municipality of Killarney’s new wharf, the expansion and further development of the Whitefish River First Nation’s Hilly Acres Campground, and the upgrade of Wahnapitae First Nation’s Pow-Wow grounds. Today’s investments will also help to modernize and transform the Temagami Outpost into an all-season resort, allow the Kivi Park Community Foundation to hire a youth intern, and pave the way for the Walden Cross Country ski club to host more provincial racing events and secure its designation as one of only four premier racing sites in Ontario.
By working in partnership with local municipalities, First Nations and organizations, FedNor is supporting
economic growth and the expansion of the tourism industry in Northern Ontario. This will help draw more tourists to the region, build upon new and existing opportunities, and highlight many of the iconic experiences, sights, and products Northern Ontario has to offer.
