Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life contribute $500,000 as National Development Sponsor to fund Indspire’s new Peer Support: Educator Coaching program

Program to help educators of Indigenous students connect, share successful practices

REGINA, Dec. 4, 2013 – Educators of Indigenous students today received a long-term commitment towards their goal of helping students succeed, when Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life pledged $500,000 as National Development Sponsor of the Indspire Institute’s Peer Support: Educator Coaching program.

Indspire’s new professional development program enables educators of Indigenous students from across Canada to share successful practices and integrate them into their classrooms. Emerging educators are connected with coaches who have years of experience working with Indigenous students and a proven track record of creating positive outcomes.

“The support of Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life for this initiative will allow Indspire to pair educators looking to receive guidance throughout the academic year with established educators in a mutually beneficial relationship,” said Roberta L. Jamieson, President and CEO of Indspire at a special ceremony at First Nations University in Regina.

“Together, these educators will grow and develop curriculum theory and its delivery to bring Indigenous education to a new level of excellence. We salute the commitment of Great West Life, London Life and Canada Life to the advancement of education for Canada’s Indigenous peoples.”

Jan Belanger, Assistant Vice-President, Community Affairs, Great-West Life, London Life and Canada Life said, “We’ve worked with Indspire for many years and our appreciation for their progressive approach to Indigenous education continues to grow. This program is a new resource to not only help educators draw on fresh ideas and proven models, but also to help them draw on one another. The goal is that educators will be in a stronger position to help students successfully complete their education and contribute fully to Canada’s economic success. This mentoring program is critical and we’re very pleased to help make it happen.”
