Hamlet of Whale Cove Local State of Emergency

The Hamlet of Whale Cove has declared a Local State of Emergency after an overnight fire destroyed the Co-op store. The hamlet is working with Nunavut Emergency Management and the Co-op to restore affected services. In addition to retail, the Co-op provides multiple services to the community.

The local fire department has advised that the fire is under control.

To prevent fire damage to the local power infrastructure, power was shut down in sections of the community, but has since been restored.

Residents should watch for updates from the local authorities.
