Have Your Say on Northwest Territory’s Potential Bid for the 2035 Canada Winter Games

Press Release

June 8, 2026

The Government of the Northwest Territories (GNWT) is inviting residents to share feedback on whether the Northwest Territories (NWT) should submit a bid to host the 2035 Canada Winter Games.

A recent feasibility review explores what hosting the Games could involve, including potential opportunities to strengthen tourism, support infrastructure and housing development, generate economic activity, and showcase northern and Indigenous cultures on a national stage.

The review also highlights that hosting the Games would be a complex, multi-year undertaking requiring significant planning, investment, and coordination, as well as careful alignment with territorial priorities.

This review was developed as a decision-support tool. It does not recommend for or against hosting the Games and does not represent any decision on how the games would be hosted. Instead, it outlines a range of possible approaches, including costs, risks, opportunities, and trade-offs, to help inform discussion and future decision-making.

Residents, organizations, and partners are encouraged to provide feedback by June 25, 2026, to help inform the GNWT’s decision on whether the NWT should host the 2035 Canada Winter Games.
