Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, the out-going council decided to bring the ballot box to Teme-Augama Anishnabai citizens in Temagami, North Bay and Bear Island on three consecutive days so that safety regulations could be followed
Bear Island’s Leanna Farr has become the first woman to hold the Ogimaa (Chief) position in the historic Teme-Augama Anishnabai election held last week.
It’s the community of the Temagami First Nation.
Farr took 54 per cent of the vote in a three-way race that concluded July 10 after three days of voting.
“I am humbled and honoured to be chosen to lead our traditional council,” said Ogimaa Farr. “This is a huge responsibility. I have such strong fellow council members. I am sure we can make great things happen.
