Housing & Infrastructure – Junior Analyst

The Housing and Infrastructure Sector at The Chiefs of Ontario is inviting applications for the position of Junior Analyst. The junior analyst reporting to the sector Director, will be a skilled data-driven individual with critical thinking skills supporting a range of advocacy initiatives including Housing and Homelessness Data Sovereignty and Housing needs assessments for First Nations. Our ideal candidate will have strong research and writing skills, enjoy working in a rapidly changing sector, and can work on complex projects and be willing to learn.

LOCATION: Hybrid – 468 Queen Street East, Toronto, ON

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct in-depth research, data collection, and analysis of policies and programs relating to First Nations and First Nation Housing and infrastructure in Ontario.
  • Coordinate consultant and partner workstreams related to housing and homelessness data sovereignty (tracking deliverables, consolidating feedback, and maintaining records); critically review submissions and identify issues, opportunities to strengthen analysis and recommendations.
  • Compile, clean, and analyze quantitative and qualitative data (e.g., administrative datasets, surveys, engagement notes, literature) to support housing needs assessments and evidence-based recommendations.
  • Coordinate and actively participate during working group and committee meetings, including the Chiefs Committee on Housing and Infrastructure.
  • Support program development by assisting in planning, research and co-ordination of projects and activities.
  • Assist the Housing and Infrastructure Sector with the interpretation of legislation, policies, programs, and services relevant to Ontario First Nations Prepare position and research papers, briefing notes, presentations and policy documents Liaise with partners (First Nations, PTOs, service providers, governments, and sector organizations) by coordinating meetings, preparing briefing materials, and tracking commitments and next steps.
  • Participate in meetings and functions with representatives of First Nations, provincial, and federal governments and other organizations.
  • Monitor and summarize relevant funding opportunities, policy updates, and sector developments; maintain a simple tracker and provide periodic internal updates.
  • Support event logistics and travel as required to represent and support the Housing and Infrastructure Sector at meetings, gatherings, and assemblies.
  • Performing other duties as assigned.

Candidates must be willing to work flexible hours during peak periods, such as assembly seasons and out-of-town meetings. Travel will also be necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in political science, policy, or another relevant field
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet tight deadlines
  • Experience preparing briefing notes, reports, memorandums, and policies
  • General knowledge of the organization and activities of the Chiefs of Ontario and current events related to First Nations in Ontario
  • Identify issues, examine options and provide recommendations to support policies developed by senior staff Knowledge of First Nation traditions, cultures and values; understand the history and relationship between First Nations and the Crown is an asset
  • Professional integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality are essential
  • Political acuity is a strong asset
  • Good analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and verbal
  • Strong organizational skills (planning, tracking actions, and maintaining records).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 tools (Microsoft Teams, Word, Excel, Outlook, Adobe Acrobat)

BASE SALARY: $55,000 – $65,000 per year, as determined by experience
