The minister of Crown-Indigenous relations has sent a notice to First Nations that it will start a consultation process with communities on issues related to Indian registration, band membership, and citizenship.
The letter, sent by Carolyn Bennett, is dated Oct. 31.
Bennett said the current structure is in need of reform.
“The collaborative process will begin with the design phase, which will provide an opportunity to work in partnership with First Nations and other Indigenous groups and organizations to co-design the comprehensive consultations,” Bennett said in the letter.
