Press Release
September 5, 2025
The Government of Nunavut is advising residents that Operation Nanook-Nunakput, the Canadian Armed Forces’ annual northern training, is underway in northern territorial communities until September 22, 2025.
The operation focuses on strengthening Arctic readiness, improving coordination with northern partners, and supporting safety and security in the territory.
This year, naval patrols will take place in collaboration with the Canadian Coast Guard (CCG), with His Majesty’s Canadian Ship (HMCS) William Hall working alongside the CCG Cutter Pierre Radisson on Arctic waters. The Canadian Army, Canadian Rangers, and Royal Canadian Air Force will also support patrols, reconnaissance, and northern operations.
Nunavummiut may notice increased military activity at airports, harbours, and northern waterways during this time. These activities are routine and intended to enhance capacity, strengthen partnerships, and support cooperation in the Arctic.
