AS IMPORTANT as the families’ response to progress on inquest recommendations into the deaths of six Indigenous students may be, much of it has already been addressed.
Legal counsel for the families issued a “report card” Wednesday, a year after a coroner’s jury made 145 recommendations around the deaths of six students attending school in Thunder Bay. The report proffered an overall grade of 67 per cent, or C+, to the eight organizations targeted by the recommendations.
Each of those organizations had made reports to Ontario’s chief coroner and served as the basis for the families’ response, which was termed “disappointing.” Still, much has been accomplished, including a variety of actions that are subjects of family concerns.
